AAMVA Attends USDOT Surface Transportation Reauthorization Kickoff

7/23/2025

AAMVA attended the United States Department of Transportation's (USDOT) event "America is Building Again: Surface Transportation Priorities." The event, hosted by USDOT, welcomed transportation stakeholders to USDOT headquarters and unveiled the Department's priorities heading into the next iteration of the United States Congress's surface transportation reauthorization measure. USDOT Secretary Sean Duffy announced that the Department is focusing on four pillars, including safety enhancement, acceleration of project delivery, enhanced partnership with stakeholders, and increasing availability of opportunities. USDOT is also looking at partnering with the states to revisit NEPA review as a strategic initiative to accelerate project delivery. The Secretary encouraged all stakeholders to submit their own reauthorization priorities directly to USDOT through a request for information (RFI) published in the July 21st Federal Register. Through the RFI, USDOT cites that it is specifically seeking input from a broad range of stakeholders to assess what has worked, what needs improvement, and what new priorities should be included in the Department's submission to Congress. USDOT cites comments that may assist in enhancing transportation safety, accelerating project delivery, increasing opportunities to promote economic growth, and strengthening partnerships with states and other key stakeholders to improve transportation outcomes. Comments to the RFI are due by August 20, 2025.
